Police claimed G20 victim may have died after clashing with 'fake' officer

Police told Ian Tomlinson's widow that someone posing as a officer may have been responsible for shoving him before he died during the G20 clashes, campaigners said last night.

They claimed that a City of London officer told Julia Tomlinson he could not rule out the 47-year-old had clashed with a protester dressed in police uniform.

The campaign group Inquest, which gives advice to the families of victims who died in police custody, said Mrs Tomlinson made the claim in an interview shortly after her husband's death.

The allegations will fuel further concern from critics who believe police made a series of blunders and cover-ups following Mr Tomlinson's death.
