Poland Slams Plane Crash Investigation Following Release Of Video

Poland's opposition, led by the identical twin of the country's late president, said on Thursday it wants Warsaw to take over the probe into the plane crash in which the head of state died this month.

Jaroslaw Kaczynski's Law and Justice (PiS) party hit out at Moscow's handling of the inquiry into the April 10 crash in Smolensk in western Russia, which claimed the lives of Lech Kaczynski along with 95 others.

"This investigation is flawed," said lawmaker Arkadiusz Mularczyk.

PiS spokesman Mariusz Blaszczak said the party was concerned after video footage of the crash site suggested it was not being properly protected.

The party filed a parliament resolution demanding that Warsaw ask Russia to hand over the probe, but the motion was voted down by a majority of 268 to 158 votes in the Diete lower house on Thursday.

Russia has rejected accusations of negligence, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk distanced his government Thursday from the opposition call, saying he was satisfied with the conduct of the probe.

"We consider that the Russians are treating their duties in this inquiry professionally," he told reporters. "Even if well-intended, PiS' initiative is missing the judicial reality."

"Showing impatience about the probe results is fuelling the false idea that the probe is moving too slowly. But it's quite the opposite," he said.
