If Goodyear can do it why not Ron Paul? Supporters of the Republican Congressman's presidential campaign are set launch a Ron Paul blimp. The blimp will be launched from North Carolina on December 11 and travel to all the way to New Hampshire, arriving in time for the state's presidential primary. It will be promoting Paul's candidacy as it floats along its merry way, according to a press release issued on PR Newswire.
The Ron Paul blimp will make stops in Washington D.C., the Big Apple, and Bean Town on its way to the Granite State. The blimp's sponsors predicted that Paul supporters would hold major rallies at each stop. They also hoped that the blimp would draw attention to Paul's candidacy as it drifted over highways and other centers of human activity.
The blimp will arrive in Boston in time to help Paul supporters commemorate the December 16th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party. Once there it will join in protests against high tax rates. Then it will head to New Hampshire before continuing on to other early primary states, including South Carolina and Florida.
Supporters have pledged $420,000 to back the blimp project. According to the press release this will be the first time that a presidential candidate has had their own blimp.
Liberty Political Advertising, LLC, is organizing the effort. The same group was responsible for a record breaking one day online fundraising effort that brought in more than $4.2 million for Paul's campaign back in early November. The group plans to conduct a similar fundraising effort in conjunction with the blimp's arrival in Boston and the events commemorating the Boston Tea Party.
The blimp is 197 feet long and more than 66 feet high. A ground crew made up of 15-20 individuals will assist the blimp's 2 pilots during takeoffs and landings. The blimp will carry 12 passengers representing charitable causes, the media, Paul supporters, and veterans. The blimp's sponsors called it "one of the largest airships in the world."
Pictures of the blimp posted on the Ron Paul Blimp website showed it bearing the word's "Ron Paul Revolution". The letters making up the "evol" in the word "revolution" have all be reversed so that the word "love" is highlighted. "We chose the Love Revolution message for people who already know Ron Paul is, because it is a message that unites and inspires the Ron Paul supporters to more action," explained the website.
According to the website, "Liberty Political Advertising is a for profit broker of political advertising time."
